Turtle Hibernating or Dead?

by jshyun

Question by question time lol: turtle hibernating or ?
ok so i rescued five turtles from a pond about 2 months ago and they have been so cold they couldnt even barely swim so i took them home and set up a tank 2.5ft by 2.5 wide and they had been all fine ( i didnt have a heater just a filter and basking spot …..

and today i came to the tank and the largest turtle (appears about 3-5years old ) and she was just on the bottom of the tank searching dead so i got her out and i feel she’s dead but i dont want to do something till i no for definate ..so does it sound like a dead turtle or not …her physique is “flopping” out the shell and 1 eye’s closed fully and the other half open…

on the bottom of the shell it appear pink ( i have by no means noticed that on a turtle ?) and its a map turtle () and please if you dont no if its dead or not please dont give an answer unless you no what your talking is true /….thanks everyone

oh and please dont say its my fault ..i do no how to care “properly” for turtles and i have performed for about four years now …i have four ybs and cumberland sliders in an 8ft tank …a musk in a 4ft and then this tank that the rescude turtle was in (and dont say how i need to of had a heater and all that due to the fact i couldnt afford it and the turtles have been lucky i even discovered them or they would all be dead if i left them in the pond …

oh and what do you do with a dead turtle if its dead ?
i have by no means had a dead turtle before

sorry for all the questions and stuff …i do no alot about turtles but not hibana

Very best answer:

Answer by Lil K
Nicely if you had been choosing her up to see if she was alive, if she was asleep surely she would have woken up so she possibly is dead?

When one of our pets die we put them in like a small box and bury them in our garden and place loads of flowers about it to remember exactly where they had been. You can constantly cremate the turtle since it gets put in a truly great box and you can keep it around the house and stuff. Sorry to hear about the turtle

Question by Dawn N: Is there support in your region? For anybody who can’t afford veterinary care for their .?
I have read so several posts the last couple of days where owners have sick cats/kittens and they can’t afford to get therapy for them. Rather than enable your pet to endure, there are Organisations out there that might be able to .

THERE ARE Quite A Few ORGANIZATIONS HERE, SO BE Confident TO SCROLL THE BOTTOM.

Maintain THIS INFO IN A Protected Location FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.

YOU By no means KNOW WHEN IT WILL PROVE TO BE HANDY.

Here is a list of organizations who can support owners that can’t afford
vet care. A couple are for rescue organizations and homeless pets.

Please forward this list to everyone you believe it might aid.

American Hospital Association

http://www.aahahelpingpets.org/home/

“The heartbreak occurs all too often ? a pet owner is unable to afford
therapy and their sick or injured companion animal pays the price.

“If the owner is elderly, disabled or on a fixed revenue, the cost of
care may be too much of a stretch for their pocketbook.

“Possibly they have been victimized by crime, property loss or a job
layoff and are experiencing a temporary financial hardship making it too
difficult to afford pet care.

“And some animals, brought to clinics
by Good Samaritans, don’t have an owner to pay for treatment.

“Whatever the situation, the reality remains the identical: When sick or injured
animals
are unable to get veterinary care, they endure.

“By means of the AAHA Helping Fund, veterinary care is feasible for
sick or injured pets even if they have been abandoned or if their owner
is
experiencing economic hardship.”

these folks might require financial help to save a beloved

UK Help with Veterinary Bills

http://www.petloversonline.co.uk/economic.htm

“Most of us can cope with the economic commitment involved in the day
to day care of our pets. However, how many of us come out in a cold
sweat when our pet is ill or injured and we know we have to take it to
the vet?

“Most of us are fortunate adequate to be in a position to afford it but, some of us
who adore our animals dearly cannot.

“Sadly we do not have a PDSA or a RSPCA Centre within our area,
but there are a few charities who may possibly be in a position to aid.”
Thanks rrm, I’ll add that to the lists. If anybody can believe of any others, can they please post on the thread and they can also be added. I’m also going to attempt and form a lists for clinics that give free spaying/neutering so if any person can e-mail some hyperlinks, I’ll place them all together and post them. Thanks, xxx

Pond Turtles for New England?

Question by discdawg87: Pond turtles for New England?
I live in South Eastern Connecticut & I have a tiny pond in my back yard. I’m not sure about gallons but it is a decent size and about three, possibly three.five feet deep in the center, prob about 6 feet long four feet wide at its largest points. I am looking to get a turtle and noticed the red-eared slider at Petco said “excellent pond turtle.” Are they ok for this climate? I know they hibernate in winter… but New England? Also, will there small claws cut by way of my rubber pond lining? If this is not the variety of turtle I want, what is? It would be excellent if you have a pond and reside in a comparable location to me. (SE, NE)
I’m looking for actual data here. Sound details in regards to the well being of an and his well being, not just warnings against exotic animals.

Greatest answer:

Answer by oikos
The last issue New England needs is a lot more exotic turtles. If you must get a RES, be extremely confident that there is no way it can escape; they can turn into real pests as escapees. Why not try a native turtle, such as a paint or snapper?
