Q&A: Dog Shampoo Safe for Cat?

by svnopa: Dog shampoo secure for cat?
My cat had fleas and I sent my roommate out to get some shampoo. (we also gave him a from the vet and administered frontline.) We wanted to wash all the dead fleas and eggs off. Following his bath, I looked at the label much more carefully and it says “do not use on cats” in little red letters on the back. He appears fine – has dried himself off and licked his fur for a couple of hours after. I’ll call the vet tomorrow unless everyone here thinks I really call sooner. We utilized Sentrypro Flea and Tick for Dogs and Puppies.
geez folks could you ease up? It was a mistake to use the dog shampoo – that’s why I’m asking for advice. The vet gave the capstar and frontline and mentioned to use both.

I don’t see why it would hurt. If you can use it on puppies it shouldn’t be that huge of a deal. Just watch for excessive scratching. Good Luck

Q&A: What Is the Safest and the Best Flea/tick Chemicals for Cats?

Question by ♥shelter puppies rule♥ COUNTDOWN TO XMAS!!!: why are flea/tick chemicals not secure for cats and question about which I really use?
Vectra 3-D says “due to their unique physiology and in capacity to metabolize particular compounds, this item ought to not be used on cats.”

what about it is secure for dogs then since I don’t understand how it is protected for dogs but will kill cats.

Also, I gave my dogs frontline plus last month. It didn’t work, I discovered many deer ticks each engorged and unengorged. I only gave portion of the item though due to the fact it says for dogs 45-88 lbs and my dog is 70 lbs..so I gave a small far more than half to him.

The other a single is for dogs 23-44 lbs and my dog is 25 lbs so I only gave her half of the item.

Should I frontline plus once again and give them all, even although other dog owners in this location said frontline plus didn’t work for their dogs either (three got lyme illness) and they gave the whole issue….OR should I try Vectra-3D which gave my dog a chemical burn prior to but my vet stated often that’s an initial reaction and the next time will be ok if I spread it out over her back instead of all in one spot……

I believe all these chemicals are toxic and dangerous to dogs. But November is the worst month for deer tick and already Oct was bad..so it is like the lesser evil…which should I do? thanks for your answers.
revolution won’t prevent against deer ticks. I’m not confident about benefit, no vets appear to sell it
advantix is deadly to cats too. but ..they need to hurt dogs if they hurt humans and cats..even frontline warns individuals to wash their hands thoroughly right after applying.
I hate utilizing this stuff.
I do check them, at least 2x each day. I don’t always see the deer ticks. I reply on both trying tosee them and really feel them. they are very modest..occasionally I miss them and don’t come across until they’re engorged.
but if my dog is 25 lbs..she shouldn’t require a tick medicine up to 44 lbs! it’s deadly enough ..but I can attempt it..or the vectra..not sure which 1 to use.
thanks James also. ok…I’ll attempt the total product of frontline..this is SO POISONOUS!!! everybody on 2 yahoo groups, rawfeeding and rawchat, say never give these merchandise. but my dog may possibly have lyme illness and i just feel i have to give it.

I use a vet product known as Benefit. I locate it very successful but it does have to be applied as soon as a month and will be less effective if you bathe the pet. One more great product is Revolution. It can be applied on puppies in between 2-3 months. Sunlight dishsoap is also great for killing fleas. I typically give my dogs a great ‘sunlight’ bath and a once over with a flea comb before using either merchandise. Advantage is good for cats or dogs. The drugstore/department retailer or pet store merchandise are pretty ineffective. Get your product from a vet. I hope this assists. Very good luck!
