Never Talking a Dog Out for a Walk?

Question by Mary: in no talking a dog out for a walk?
Im arguing with my buddy and I want some factors and such to back me up. But very first here the situation…

One of my girl friends bought a 2 month old chihuahua, around the identical time I bought my puppy. Both of them are three-4yrs old by now.I walk my dog daily, and she has not walked hers on a leash for the past three-four year!

I always tell her to walk it,because it require exercise but shes afraid of it “obtaining dirty ,fleas”.

her dog appears fine, typical, nicely house trained. but is it Really ok for the dog to by no means walk outside?

btw.she holds it in her arm/carrier once out.
does that count?
ahh silly, i spelled “talking “. you know what i meant …TAKING.

I don’t assume it’s okay! Dogs need to get physical exercise and see new places and smell new points. Her dog is most likely really bored and unstimulated!

I have a little dog (dachshund) and he goes nuts if he doesn’t get a extended day-to-day walk or dog park pay a visit to.

I think your friend sounds like Paris Hilton. tell your friend if it gets dirty/fleas, just wash it with dog shampoo/flea bath. as for the carry bag thing i think that she should drop that idea

ps. i dont really think you should hang out if she does it again

pss. if she has blonde hair SLAP HER SILLY!!!!!!

    psss. i hate paris hilton

i dont think it counts ahaha.
buht tell her to not worry about fleas because they dont live on the streets! thats so random.
and if their pup gets dirty, they should wash it right after!
    thats just my opinion though.
    well goodluck [:

While chihuahuas are more subject to attack then other dogs, your friend is being a tiny bit over cautious.

But to play it safe, your friend should let her chihuahua play in the backyard, as all dogs will get fleas and dirty some stage in their life.

. Check out the ‘Dog Whisperer’ on tv. a dog needs Exercise!
But maybe a small chihuahua can survive just running around the house.
    BUT outside stuff IS better.

According to the dog trainer we used, it is necessary to walk a dog every single day. They need the exercise and it teaches them to be able to deal with new scents and people withouth getting freaked out.
I have a chihuahua mix and we use Frontline and bathe it regularly so it isn’t dirty and it doesn’t have fleas.

Not regularly exercing your dog is the beginning of many problems. Its just not fair for the dog to live a life like that.

Walking and getting activity is good for the dog’s health and development; they gain character from interactions with other people, animals, and events they encounter in the world. To keep them in the house and never let them explore stunts their physical and mental growth.

It is very selfish of your friend to not give this dog a walk and let it be a dog and mature. I’ve seen dogs like this and they have the worst personalities of any dogs I have ever seen. Taking a dog for a walk and letting it play outdoors is not going to cause it to get fleas. Dogs should get dirty from time to time; they are very easy to clean. Your freind is making excuses for her laziness and ignorance.

Regardless of the size of the dog it is still important to give your dog regular walks. Outdoor walks expose a dog to new sights and sounds which stimulate it. A dog constantly stuck within 4 walls is one bored pup not to mention probably not getting enough exercise. Dogs who get so cooped up often develop bad habits out of boredom.

The wolf, the dogs wild cousin, spends much of its time constantly roaming and on the move. Our dogs still retain some of this instinct and need to be stimulated by new sights and smells.

I’ve owned several dogs and never had a dog that was flea infested or really knew any that got flea infested. Besides, fleas are realtively easy to get rid of if your dog does get them and dirt is a simple trip to tub or groomer to get rid of. VERY small price to play for keeping your dog stimulated, exercised and happy.

Not taking a dog for a walk can be equated to a human staying in the house because they are afraid of getting dirty…I know, crazy right. That’s why there are things called baths and a wonderful product called Frontline Plus. It sounds to me like your friend is ill informed on dogs and needs a little canine education.

I think for the size of the dog it should be fine just running around the house i bet running up the stairs is a mammoth task for little legs!! The dog will start having behaviour problems if not happy and will most definately let owner know so i wouldn’t worry
