I Found a Starving Tick & Flea Ridden Stray Dog. I Contacted the Owner but Having 2nd Thoughts Giving It Back?

Question by starry eyed: I identified a starving tick & flea stray dog. I the owner but having 2nd thoughts giving it ?
I thought possibly the dog was lost for a long time. Turns out the owner lost it the same day it went missing. I told him it was really skinny, had fleas and ticks all over it and all he stated was
“yeah, its a nation dog.” They have my name and telephone quantity, but not my address. Will I get in trouble if I dont give the dog back? This dog was starving so a lot he just slept for days even though it is a young dog. I feed the dog a lot of food and now he has energy. You would assume if you reside in the nation, you would give your dog frontline to kill fleas and ticks? This dog had 25 ticks on it, and fleas jumping all over the location. It was so skinny it was just a skeleton. I contacted animal control but all they do is get in touch with the owner and do a follow up welfare check. The dog already looks better, thanks to me so the hardcore evidence of his abuse is gone.

You can’t legally judge regardless of whether it’s abuse or neglect. Get in touch with authorities and let them judge that, then you can’t do something else but what they tell you.

Frontline does not repel fleas and ticks, it kills them off in 12-24 hours.

It sad. Don’t you have a spca or humane society? If I were you I wound’t want to send it back to that home. Maybe take it to a vet and have them file a report of the health of the dog?

you may get in trouble if you don’t give it back, but it sounds to me like the owner doesn’t particularly care about the dog, so who knows? Are there any animal rescues in your town? If there are, call them. I would say the dog may just be naturally thin (some dogs are) but if it has put on weight since you have had it then that’s not the case. My dog used to stay thin, I just couldn’t get her to eat all her food. Country dogs are not like that, I live in the country (in australia though) and my dogs never have fleas or ticks, they are wormed regularly and they are confined to a yard (although my other dog used to be an escape artist, seriously she was a little silky terrior and managed to jump this huge piece of mesh that blocked off her last escape exist, but I got her in eventually, she didn’t escape at all when we moved to the new house). My bf’s pop has a lot of dogs and cats, like an unbelievable amount, some came there because they were stray, others are pets. But he feeds them all regularly and they are all healthy (one of them is old but she is the most clever dog you will meet, I have one of her pups, she sits on the back of the motor bike and helped chase in the cows and everything!). So I would advise maybe an animal rescue or something. Perhaps you could ask to adopt it?

You don’t have the power to take him away but RSPCA does because dogs have rights he the owner is abusing the poor dog call RSPCA right now they should take him away and if you like him you might get to keep him and he would be forever great full !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you are in America its called ASPCA.

Don’t give it back!! My neighbors down the street found a beautiful dog several years ago.She was skinny, matted and had a wire wrapped around her neck. They kept her for about 3 months, then decided to put a found ad in the paper. The owners came and took the dog.I was so mad at them because if the owners had cared about the dog it would not have been in the shape that it was and they would have put an ad in the paper themselves. This dog was so beautiful and healthy when the owners took it back. I felt so bad for it because the neighbors treated her very well. I don’t understand why they did that.

So NO,do NOT give it back! Tell them it ran away again!

The best thing to do for that cute dog is to keep it, check to see if it has all it’s shots. But not to give it back to the old owner. If they call the cops you can just go to court and just take pictures of how the dog was before and now, and see if you can keep him or her.

OH THAT POOR PUPPY!!!! I would feel the same exact way. Being a dog person and having 5 dogs myself, i wouldnt want to give the dog back. “Yeah its a country dog” is the worst excuse for not taking care of that poor soul!!! If you get an animal, you need to treat it like a person not a rug to wipe your feet on!!! The only thing is, i think its illegal to find a dog and not give it back when the owner knows you have it. :*( I would go online and look up the nearest ASPCA or SPCA or even your local police station. But if you do keep the dog, I would watch out for that guy, cause he might get protective and try to get the dog back and he could and would with the people we have in the world these days, hurt you. Just saying, watch out! Hope you can keep the dog and give him a real LOVING home! Good Luck :D bye

Report them to the SPCA . Are you sure you want this dog ? He might have some real bad habits knowing he was raised by a jerk who didn’t care at all.

  9. Yorkie says:

I think he was neglected very badly. Call the ASPCA or animal control, and take this to court if you need to. I wouldn’t want to give the poor dog back. If you could keep him, I would say he is pretty nice, responsible, caring, and generous hands. :)

  10. For ever in my Heart says:

I would bring it to the spca or a animals rescue shelter. let the farmer come to the shelter and see if the shelter is willing to release it they will decide what type of shape this poor dog is in. If he’s not bad off the farmer will have to pay for its release and perhaps this will teach him not to let his dog stray and at the same time get tips from the shelter on how to take care of a dog. If he’s not fined first. he may just walk away rather than paying to get the dog returned and this dog can have a better life with someone who cares about him.
